Temperature Blanket Update: May

As lockdown in New Jersey continues, I am starting to realize how much I miss the simple things… like shopping for yarn.

Making plenty of squares!

After one month of waiting on my yarn order, it finally arrived just a few days before the end of May. While I was able to continue making temperature squares, I couldn’t continue joining until I received my missing color. The sad part is when I picked colors for my temperature blanket, I made one huge mistake. I accidentally used a big box store brand yarn instead of sticking with Lion Brand.

Allow me to explain.

When I went to my local craft store to pick out my color palette, I picked all Lion Brand. I NEVER purchase store-brand yarn, as it makes life more difficult if you need yarn for a project and can’t get to that specific shop. Well, when I picked up one of the skeins in the middle of the Lion Brand section it was the perfect color… in a store-brand. Carelessly, I thought it was just a new label from Lion Brand and didn’t give it a serious read.

My temperature blanket – January through May!

Once all the stores in New Jersey closed it became incredibly difficult to get, well…. anything! Since yarn shopping doesn’t fall under “essential,” (which I beg to differ), I was left trying to do exactly what I wanted to avoid; acquiring craft store-brand yarn. It took exactly four weeks to get my yarn order. I am now forced to stick with my selection mistake since I am already five months into the year. If all goes according to plan, local shops (including “non-essential”) should be open by the end of June… I can only hope.

Thankfully once I received my order, I was able to get caught up on my missing squares and complete my May joins. I also made sure to weave in my ends as I progressed so I’m not stuck with that job all at once. I’m happy with how it is progressing. By the end of the year I’m sure it will fill up the entire bed!

Needless to say, please learn from my mistake. Read labels carefully! Make sure you are purchasing the correct brand. when planning your projects.
